In the heart of casual golf land, Glencullen Golf Course is set high in the Dublin
Mountains, overlooked only by the Giants Grave that is situated in the woodland
left of the fifth fairway.
In existence since 1997, it is safe to say that this course is improving with age.
Credit is due to Matthew Davy and his team for the endless hours they continuously
put into the course in order to keep it playable for as much of the year as is possible,
given it's altitude and exposure to nature.
A testy opening par three followed by a couple of straightforward par fours should
see you get off to a solid start. However, once you reach the signature holes at
the top of the course, your scoring is immaterial as the panoramic surround takes
control. To the left you are indulging in some of the finest views over Dublin Bay,
straight in front of you is the leafy suburb that is the Dalkey/Killiney triangle
and to your right is the Wicklow frontier with it's own mountain range rolling into
the distance and beyond.

Once you have taken time to smell the flowers along the way and the real world is
thrust back upon you as you make your way to the bottom of the course, there is
only one thing to fear. WATER!! An easy enough finish to the course provided you
can avoid the dreaded H2O.

Indeed Glencullen is a tricky test for the lower handicapped golfer while at the
higher end of the handicaps, it will make or break you depending on how you treat
it. Well worth a visit.
